Advices and suggestions

Vaccination 

Given the time required for vaccine reminders, get yourself vaccinated at least 3 months prior to your trip. The tetanus and polio are recommended for all destinations. 

Typhoid, diphtheria, hepatitis A and B are recommended for all Eastern Europe countries, the former Soviet Union and Africa.
In addition to the above vaccines, yellow fever, as well as a malaria treatment is recommended for all tropical countries.

your doctor will write your details on a special vaccination book where you can monitor the validity period and the dates for the recall. Immunization is valid from 1 to 10 years according to the diseases.

In tropical countries, watch your food and drink only beverages open in front of you, avoid iced drinks, dairy products, salads, sorbets and ice cream

Transport of arms and ammunitions

you must declare your weapon at the airport of departure and upon entry into a foreign territory, including all countries while in transit. Your weapon must be locked in an adequate hard case. Knives and cylinder heads must travel in the cargo inside your bag, never within your rifle bag or hand luggage. Ammunition must travel in the cargo within an adequate locked hard case.
It is also advisable to remove the bezel from the firearm and place it with your clothes. You are responsible to give the correct serial number of your weapon. 

It is mandatory to apply with the flight company for the right to travel
with your weapon before departure. 

Voucher 

with travel documents, the client will receive a voucher that includes all details of your trip. This document is to be submitted to the hunt organiser upon arrival. We recommend that you keep this document carefully as it contains the purpose and dates of your stay.

Dogs 

you can bring your dog as long as you deliver a certificate of good health not older than 12 days before departure. The recall of the vaccine against rabies must be less than a year. In Scotland and England, dogs are allowed under certain conditions. The dog’s flight ticket must be booked at the same time as yours. Fares vary according to his weight and size. Ask your vet for measures to be taken according to your destination.

Information on flights
Nowadays, the conditions regarding luggage are specific to each airline. Depending on your destination, those conditions will be given upon reservation.

Caution 

The weapon will go along with your luggage. Additional cost may occur for excess weight. Information subject to change depending on airline. 

Repatriation of trophies 

Please give details to your hunting guide (the name and address of your freight broker along with your stuffer’s address upon arrival). For all destinations, repatriation is not included. For more information, call  GONDRAND on: 01 48 16 89 28.
Animals with an asterisk (i.e. leopard) are subject to CITES.

Washington’s Convention 

This convention gives you details of which protected species you need a CITES for.
Appendix 1 shows the protected species that are forbidden to return to France. 

Appendixes 2 shows the species that may be threatened with extinction if trade is not regulated. It is possible to bring the trophy back once you have a CITES export permit from the country of origin, which must be submitted prior to departure and an import authorization from the recipient country (consult your freight broker). 

Appendix 3 shows species that are banned in some countries.
A permit is required like the above case.

Importing trophies 

if the trophies are not subject to CITES, they can be sent as luggage, depending on the country. This solution is the simplest and least expensive method. In Europe, this is not a problem. The weight of trophies is compatible with the luggage. A surcharge is perceived by some airlines. For all European and Asian countries, it is strongly advised to take the trophy with you in order to avoid extra costs (+ VAT + freight forwarding expenses).
If requested, the trophies can be sent to your home, as long as you are prepared to pay the freight charges. In this case, delivery might take a little more time.

If the hunts are held overseas, the trophies will be sent by plane according to the weight and the number of trophies. The port and customs clearance costs are in any case the customer’s responsibility and is payable directly to the freight broker. As regards to the importation of trophies for which import authorization CITES is required, see with your freight broker who must ensure customs clearance. The trophies always travel at customers risks. Accordingly, Kettner Travel is not responsible for the repatriation.

VAT clearance 

when hunting outside the EEC, you must submit your trophies to the customs of the recipient country. You will then be imposed VAT. In this case keep your receipt. 

According to the country of entry, Customs will tax according to the community value of the trophy (Germany). or will be based on the actual slaughter’s tax paid (France).

Some advice on the calibre: (depending on the species, the choice of calibre can be refined i.e. diversity of large antelopes, various bear species: black bear or big brown bear ...)
